Installation Instructions

To install, please follow the instructions below:

Unless you have a lot of system memory (RAM), you may need to reduce your texture resolution to Very High or High prior to loading your new scenery. Trying to load the imagery at full resolution may make your system run out of memory and cause an "XMapped Error" in X-Plane. If you receive this error message, set your rendering options lower in your Settings > Rendering Options menu. For more information on getting the best X-Plane performance with your scenery, please read this performance document.

Special note regarding X-Plane 9.2: Beginning with X-Plane version 9.2, "texture paging" allows the scenery close to your aircraft to be loaded at a higher resolution than scenery farther in the distance. This capability will allow you to load all of the RealScenery files on most newer computer systems. New scenery will be loaded as you are flying. A dual-processor system will make this loading very smooth, as one processor will load scenery while the other processor flies the simulator. In a single-processor computer you may notice slight pauses as new scenery is being loaded. X-Plane 9.2 is highly recommended, but not necessary to fly with RealScenery. With versions of X-Plane previous to 9.2, you will most likely not be able to load all of the scenery tiles at one time at the highest resolution settings.

Prior to installing your scenery, consider moving any other custom scenery folders that may have scenery in the same geographic area to another folder in order to avoid conflicts when loading.

Installation instructions:

1. Drag the WA_Demo scenery folder into your X-Plane Custom Scenery folder.
2. Drag the _WA_Demo_overlays folder into your X-Plane Custom Scenery folder.

Your Custom Scenery folder should look like the image below.

3. Start X-Plane.
4. Click on the Location menu > Select Global Airport.
5. Enter "KAWO" and select the Arlington Municipal airport from the airport list.
6. Click "Go To This Airport." This is the Arlington, Washington airport.
7. If you receive a message that X-Plane found an area with no scenery installed, click the "Understood" button to continue.
8. Click Location menu > Local Map.
9. Click the "Textured" tab at the top of the window. You should see the RealScenery area around the airport.
10. Using the settings to the right of the map, enter an altitude of about 4000 feet above the airport elevation and a speed appropriate for your aircraft.
11. Click the "X" at the upper left of the window to close the map and start flying.
Enjoy your flight!

Thanks for flying with RealScenery!
